Build the message
I appreciate your work with [child's name]. At home, I have noticed [specific pattern] during [setting or task]. What are you seeing in class? Could we try [small plan] and look at [specific evidence] together on [follow-up date]?
What if the first plan is not enough?
- Review what happened and revise the plan with the teacher
- Ask which school contact owns the relevant program, evaluation, support, or decision
- Follow the school's stated process and keep a factual record of questions, responses, plans, and dates
- Seek qualified outside guidance when the issue requires testing, disability, medical, mental-health, or legal expertise
Reflection
- Is my observation specific enough that another adult could recognize it?
- Is my question genuinely open?
- Does the plan name what we will try and what we will review?
- Did we choose a follow-up date?
